Dr Gabriel is a four times great granddaughter of Jenny Harriott, niece of Patron Mariann Harriott and first cousin to Patron Albert Harriott. She holds a BA Honours degree in Journalism Studies from London Metropolitan University and a PhD in Media, Culture and Communication from the University of Salford. As a former academic, she founded Black British Academics in 2013, a global community and collective platform to advance equity, diversity and inclusion within higher education. Now retired, she offers specialist services on a consultancy basis, in addition to working as an external researcher for an international genealogy organisation. Dr Gabriel financed the creation of Jenny Harriott Foundation, including its unique trademark, and maintains responsibility for the funding and management of the website.
