Francis Harriott

  • Son of Jenny Harriott, born enslaved to John Harriott (1803-?) in 1832.
  • Did not have to serve an apprenticeship in 1834 as he was aged under 5.
  • Lived in St Elizabeth after emancipation, working as a labourer.
  • Married Eliza Young on 18th May 1850.
  • Died a widow on 29th November 1904.

Eliza Harriott

  • Born Eliza Young, enslaved to John Salmon Junior in 1832 as attorney for the Appleton Estate.
  • Eliza’s mother may have been Amchia Salmon whom records show was registered to Elizabeth Mary Williams in 1823 in St Ann, who inherited enslaved people from Henry Williams. No details of age, race or ethnicity, just that the persons were not previously registered.
  • Did not have to serve an apprenticeship in 1834 as she was aged under 5.
  • Lived in St Elizabeth after emancipation, working as a labourer.
  • Married Francis Harriott on 18th May 1850.
  • Died on 12th December 1886.

Francis and Eliza Harriott Death Records

Eliza Harriott passed away on 12 December 1886 after suffering from a fever for 5 days. Her husband Francis, signed the death certificate. He died some years later on 12th November 1904, also from a fever. Both worked as labourers.
